5 New Music Genres You Need To Hear in 2015

Music genres: you can't live with them, can't live without them. Whether you're writing about music or describing a band to your friend who's slowly adopting that patient-but-definitely-not-getting-it expression, then you know....

TDM

Tin-Foil  Dance Music fuses elements of metal, Rock, EDM, hiphop/Trap. Tin-Foil Metal RAP get it? This genre boasts Mid-tempo high energy tracks. It is the type of music that makes you want to mosh or dance. The beats are big and modern like in EDM tracks, but the arrangements are more aggressive and progressive like in rock and metal music. Instruments use live sounds like guitars and synth elements like wobbles bass and saw waves. Vocals usually have rapping verses and singing hooks.

Example of TDM:

TripHop Pop

Definition: Infuses Triphop, Pop, and
Psychedelic Rock elements. Phat hiphop breaks, but with pop hooks. Groups like Portishead, Hooverphonic, SneakerPimps, and Massive Attack got the balling rolling in triphop, but artist like Lana Del Ray, The Neighborhood, and Lauren Stone have been pushing the envelope.

Dubstazz

Definition: (See jazzstep); an amalgamation of dubstep or DJ-produced electronic music with traditional jazz or blues elements.

It's definitely not jazz. It's also not your garden variety of wobbly bass (in fact, it's better). Moby was an early dabbler in dubstazz, but guys like Pretty Lights and RJD2 have been expanding the genre ever since.

CDM

Definition: (See inexplicable); Country Dance Music, where a 4-on-the-floor beat and electronic production are overlaid with folk or country-like melodies and vocals.

Where, oh where, did CDM come from? Maybe the music industry got bored and decided to experiment with two of history's most hate-it-or-love-it genres. Either way, here it is, and if Pitbull's 'Timber' sticks around on the charts any longer, then CDM might be here to stay.

Heroine Pop

Definition: A low-gloss style of female pop songwriting, where the singer crafts frank and unglamorous stories about adolescence, sex and class.

Girls who don't buy into Katy Perry's or Taylor Swift's white bread brands of broken heartedness can find comfort in the ladies of heroine pop, like Lorde and Sky Ferreira. Sure, heroine pop is a little bit trashy, a little hyperbolic, but it sounds like diamonds and will never lie to you.

See also: Lana Del Rey, Charli XCX, Iggy Azalea

Slouch Rock

Definition: Mid-tempo alternative rock with lazily articulated vocals (usually male), backed by a fuzzy electric guitar or slide guitar track.

A modern incarnation of Bob Dylan's mumbles and slurs, slouch rock can be a delightful palate cleanser in the buffet of modern music. Artists like King Krule and Mac DeMarco may not have the most soothing or conventional voices, but their music’s lack of overproduction is refreshing.See also: Kurt Vile, Widowspeak, Girls.

The genres are very well defined....and they are not creations......they are distinctions....for the people who understand the difference in the first place.....good knowledge wont kill you...and yes if u hafta put your idea forward ..there a are better ways than just being ignorant....music is vast......and the distinctions many....great if you have them sorted properly...awsum if you understand the distinctions accurately....

It's quite simple really, you either like a music track or you don't. How are you ever gonna enjoy any form of music if you have to label it with a style every time you hear it? Stick your pointless genres and sub-genres up your arse and let everyone else just enjoy the music.

There is a point to having genres to make it easier to find specific music you want. Some, like me, have limited taste (lyrical hip hop and heavy metal). I am not too into RnB or pop, and I can't just listen to any kind of rap or rock/metal music.
